With the English Premier League club vying to win an historic quadruple this season, and with injuries ravaging the senior squad, manager Jurgen Klopp has turned to the club’s famed academy for help. And while Danns and Koumas got on the scoresheet, 19-year-old Bobby Clark produced an assist for the latter. Jon Super/APHis father, former Premier League player Neil Danns, was at Anfield to watch his son score his first two goals for the senior side. Bobby Clark, perhaps the standout star from this latest crop of players, talking with Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. Inglethorpe recently spoke to Liverpool Jamie Carragher about the demands and expectations set for youngsters coming through the ranks at the Premier League club, and it’s clear that character means just as much as talent.

Reuters —England under-20 international Charlie Hughes gave new meaning to the phrase ‘late winner’ when he scored after 20 minutes of second-half stoppage time to earn Wigan Athletic a 1-0 win over Wycombe Wanderers in England’s third tier on Tuesday. The unusually long period of stoppage time at the end of the League One match came about because of an injury to referee Adam Herczeg after a fall early in the second half. The England under-20 international caught the ball on the volley to score the latest goal recorded in a match in the long history of the English Football League (EFL) to win the game. The victory moved Wigan into the top half of League One standings, sitting 11th with 34 points. Wycombe is 17th on 30 points, four above the relegation zone.

MANCHESTER, England (AP) — Bobby Charlton, an English soccer icon who survived a plane crash that decimated a Manchester United team destined for greatness to become the heartbeat of his country's 1966 World Cup-winning team, has died. “Sir Bobby was a hero to millions, not just in Manchester, or the United Kingdom, but wherever football is played around the world,” United said. “There was always one great hope — the return to greatness of my beloved club,” Charlton said. The biggest prize of his club career arrived in 1968 as United became the first English club to become champion of Europe. But Charlton is perhaps best known for being part of the England team that won the World Cup.

Footage of English football fans singing a player chant in 2016 is being shared online alongside the false claim that it shows Ukrainians celebrating a July 2023 attack on the bridge linking Russia to Crimea. One version of the clip was uploaded to YouTube on May 20, 2016 (here), where it is titled: “Will Grigg's on Fire - Best Football Chant Ever”. Other videos show Wigan supporters singing the song in numerous locations (here and here), while the striker himself was recorded singing along to it in 2018 (here). The alternative lyrics were reported on locally (here and here), while Twitter users also posted about them in March 2016 (here, here and here). The video shows people singing an English football chant in 2016, not Ukrainians celebrating an attack on a bridge in 2023.

“Most Irish nationalists, most Irish Catholics in Northern Ireland regarded it as being not for them. “[It is a] sort of a badge, an emblem or totem of British imperialism, British colonialism.”‘The Troubles’McClean is one such dissenting voice. He was born and raised in Derry, a small town in Northern Ireland bordering the Republic. "The Troubles" split communities in Northern Ireland who still feel the affects more than 20 years later. At the time, he questioned the Northern Irish football team’s decision to play “God Save the Queen” as its national anthem.
